Mary Ann Thompson:

CLASS OF 1974
Severna park, MD

Mary Ann's Story

In September 74 after high school, I got married. Had a beautiful baby girl in 76. Things did not work out with the marriage and I divorced. I was working for the state of Md at the time and it was tough being a working single mom. After almost 9 years with the state I left to work for a property management company in Annapolis. Married my 2nd husband and moved to NJ as he was in the Coast Guard. Joined the Coast Guard Reserve and worked at a bank. After NJ we moved back to Annapolis MD in 88. Sadly, my mom passed away that year. After only 9 months in MD, husband was promoted and we moved to New Castle, NH. It was beautiful! We lived on an island off of Portsmouth NH with the Atlantic Ocean and two lighthouses as our front yard. I worked as a school nurse in Kittery Maine until 1991 when our son was born. In 1992 the Coast Guard moved us again to Clevland Ohio. We lived 5 houses down from Lake Erie. In 93 our second son was born. My daughter finished 12 grade here and went to college at SUNY Delhi in "up"state NY. In 95, another promotion, another move. This time to the Big Apple (NYC). We lived on the CG base in Sandy Hook, NJ in a restored historial home. We had ...Expand for more
the bay in the back, and the ocean in the front. Our daughter started a job with an Animal Hospital as a Vet Tech. and is still with them today. Did the PTA and Boy Scout den mom thing. Did you know dryer lint makes a good fire starter? :0) Had a great tour here and then...off to "The Great State of Texas" (that is how the say it)! We lived 14 miles south of Houston in League City. My husband worked in Glaveston at the Coast Guard Group. A very different way of life down there and fun! The best mexican food and the home of "beer can chicken". A couple of years after 911 my husband took a job in DC with Transportation Security Adm.(TSA) and retired from the Coast Guard. That is what brought us here to Northern VA. We have been here going on 6 years. I am a sub at the High School, and volunteer with the school, and Coast Guard. Will have a son going to college here in the fall of 2009 and one still at home. I am so looking forward to "real" retirement as soon as our youngest is out of High School. I really enjoyed going to different states but miss the friends we met along the way. I am so glad I finally joined Classmates. It is fun getting in touch with classmates!
